Job Description:

We are seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic nursing colleague to join the Pediatric Sedation Unit (PSU) at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC). The PSU provides specialized sedation care to infants, children, adolescents, and developmentally challenged young adults in the National Capital Region. Our multidisciplinary team supports a range of subspecialties, including Cardiology, Neurology, Hematology/Oncology, Endocrinology, Surgery, Audiology, and Developmental Pediatrics. You would join a team with one other PSU RN, working alongside pediatric critical care trained intensivists. We offer full spectrum sedation services from minimal sedation to moderate and deep sedation. Child Life services are available. We have a dedicated sedation scheduler and serve approximately 40 patients each month. This outpatient clinic position features Monday-Friday workhours with federal holidays observed. We are in close proximity to the vibrant Bethesda and D.C. areas, rich with cultural, historical, and outdoor activities, excellent public transportation, and award-winning schools. Requirements:

Graduate from an accredited professional nursing educational program; Maintains BLS, PALS, ALS/ACLS certifications; Observes, monitors, and assesses patient’s condition; recognizing, identifying and interpreting serious situations; Formulates an appropriate nursing plan of care to ensure safe pediatric sedation and adequate parental and patient teaching; Conducts telephonic pre-sedation teaching to parents, and post-sedation follow-up, and documents appropriately; In conjunction with physician order, administers sedation and analgesic medications via the topical, oral, intravenous, intranasal, or intramuscular routes; Competent in venipuncture and peripheral IV access placement; Performs others duties as assigned.
