Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care Advanced Fellowship Position:
The Department of Critical Care Medicine at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh (CHP) has open positions for a one- or two-year advanced training fellowship in the field of Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care Medicine (PCCCM) for the 2025-2026 academic year. The program is non-ACGME accredited. Candidates must have completed a fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care, Pediatric Cardiology, Pediatric Anesthesiology, or Neonatology.
The Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) at CHP consists of a 12-bed unit, as well as a 21-bed acuity adaptable unit, staffed by pediatric cardiac intensivists, APPs, multi-disciplinary fellows, and expert cardiac nursing. Our team cares for over 400 cardiac critical care admissions and approximately 200-300 cardiopulmonary bypass cases a year. Our trainees have a robust exposure to pre-and post-operative cardiac management, mechanical circulatory support (ECMO/VAD), cardiac surgery, pulmonary hypertension, and transplantation (including heart, lung, heart-lung, and heart-liver). The CICU fellow’s clinical rotations are individualized based on their prior training, with rotations in anesthesia, cardiac catheterization, echocardiography, electrophysiology, CT surgery, and pediatric critical care. Trainees will gain in-depth clinical knowledge and technical skills necessary to care for critically ill infants, children, adolescents, and adults with acute cardiac disease and congenital heart problems through clinical experience, didactics, journal clubs, and multidisciplinary conferences.
Educational opportunities are tailored to suit the needs and interests of each trainee. The program is highly integrated with other fellowships including pediatric cardiology, critical care medicine, neonatology, and anesthesiology to provide a broad range of interdisciplinary training, as well as research/QI opportunities.
