The Department of Pediatrics and the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) within the Congenital Heart Center at the University of Florida Children's Hospital is now accepting applications for one senior fellowship position in pediatric cardiac critical care medicine to start on July 1, 2025. The ideal candidate will be board-certified in pediatrics and have completed a fellowship and be board certified/eligible in pediatric critical care medicine or cardiology. The program is accredited by the GME office at the University of Florida, as a non-ACGME fellowship.

With over 400 admissions annually, our 23-bed dedicated CICU provides comprehensive cardiac critical care for all patients with congenital heart disease from birth to adulthood. Our services include the full breadth of congenital heart surgeries and interventional procedures along with a robust heart failure, ventricular assist device, and transplant program. Our revolutionary outcomes in mechanical circulatory support in infants and single ventricle patients have become a point of recognition resulting in increased numbers of patients being referred to our center from all over the country.

The UF Health critical care division is comprised of a multi-disciplinary team including eight critical care physicians, ten nurse practitioners and physician assistants, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, respiratory therapists, speech and occupational therapists, and physical therapists. All medical and surgical subspecialties are available to the team including an advanced vascular team. The Congenital Heart Center includes exemplary faculty in heart failure and transplant, non-invasive cardiac imaging, adult congenital cardiology, interventional cardiology, and electrophysiology.

About The Fellowship:
The senior fellow will have exposure to pre-and post-operative care of children with complex congenital heart disease, heart failure management, ECMO, ventricular assist devices, and transplantation. The senior fellow's educational program will be tailored to the individual's prior experience and skills. All fellows will have at least 6 months of dedicated service time in the CICU. For those with prior cardiology experience, the remainder of the clinical experience will focus on critical care medicine, airway management, and other intensive care interventions. For those with prior critical care experience, the remainder of the clinical experience will focus on developing skills in cardiology, such as echocardiography, electrophysiology, and cardiac catheterization. In addition, all fellows will have elective time. Participation in research is expected during your fellowship.
