Pediatric Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit Hospitalist Position
The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford University (LPCH) seeks board-certified or board-eligible pediatricians to work as hospitalist physicians practicing under the supervision of ICU attending physicians. Our CVICU is expanding to a 36-bed dedicated unit that provides all forms of cardiovascular intensive care for children and young adults with congenital and acquired cardiovascular diseases. Our CVICU performs a full range of clinical services, including mechanical support with ventricular assist devices and ECMO, high quality surgery, and cardiac transplantation.
Our CVICU has offered hospitalist positions for over a decade and has recruited both recently graduated pediatrics residents looking for gap years and fellowship trained physicians looking for more experience or a more flexible primarily clinical career in a CVICU. The hospitalist program includes thorough on the job training in both cardiac physiology and critical care skills, such as ventilator management. A formal orientation process and evaluation system provide structure to this educational process, and many recent pediatrics graduates use our hospitalist year as a jumping off point to fellowship training in either pediatric cardiology or pediatric critical care. Hospitalists are hired as clinical instructors at the Stanford School of Medicine. Salary is based on experience and level of training and is competitive for the area (approximately $207,000 - $215,000).
The CVICU hospitalist physician will be responsible for:
• Primary/front-line clinician duties on day and night shifts in the CVICU caring for infants, children and young adults with critical illness under the direction and supervision of the CVICU attending physician
• Evaluation and management of critical illness, including assisting in airway management, vascular access, resuscitation, and other critical care procedures as needed
• Participation in unit-based teaching, quality improvement and research activities
• An average of 40 hours per week for a full-time position, including both day and night shifts. Schedules will be constructed with an attempt to provide continuity of clinical coverage and a reasonable sequence of night, day and weekend shifts.
Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, CV, and a diversity statement as a single attachment to the attention of Meghna D Patel, M.D and Asha Nair, M.D.; Co-Directors, Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit Hospitalist Program, Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford.
