Date Posted: December 4, 2023
Job Description:

The Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is looking for board-certified or board-eligible pediatricians to work as CICU hospitalist physicians practicing under the supervision of CICU attending physicians.

Our CICU is a dedicated 36-bed unit that provides all forms of cardiovascular intensive care for newborns, infants, children, and young adults with congenital and acquired cardiovascular diseases. Our program is one of the leading programs in the nation in the areas of single ventricle disease, lymphatic diseases, heart failure and cardiac transplantation and pulmonary hypertension. The care includes all forms of advanced respiratory and cardiovascular, renal and neurological support, including mechanical circulatory support with ventricular assist devices (VAD) and ECMO.

The CICU hospitalist positions is suitable for recently graduated pediatrics residents looking for gap year work that is enriching and stimulating and for those with future potential fellowship training interests in critical care medicine or cardiology.

We welcome pediatric cardiology or pediatric critical care fellowship trained physicians looking for more experience in cardiac pathophysiology and management or looking for a gap year after fellowship with a very flexible schedule.

The hospitalist program includes rich on-the-job learning directly from faculty members and rigorous training in cardiac physiology and all aspects of critical care and procedural skills. A formal orientation process and evaluation system provide structure to this educational process, and many recent pediatrics graduates use our hospitalist year as a jumping off point to fellowship training in either pediatric cardiology or pediatric critical care. Salary is extremely attractive with opportunities for extra moonlighting. Schedule allows large blocks of free time with no clinical commitments.

The CICU hospitalist physician Job description includes:
· Front-line clinician duties on day and night shifts in the CVICU caring for infants, children and young adults with critical illness under the direct direction and supervision of the CICU attending physician
· Evaluation and management of critical illness, including assisting in airway management, vascular access, resuscitation, and other critical care procedures as needed
· Participation in unit-based teaching, quality improvement and research activities
· An average of 40 hours per week for a full-time position, including both day and night shifts.
