Job Description:

Chief, Pediatric Critical Care Medicine

Children’s Hospital at Montefiore/Albert Einstein College of Medicine Bronx, New York

The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore Einstein (CHAM) and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, with the Department of Pediatrics, are currently recruiting a Chief for the Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. The Division Chief will be responsible for further development of a comprehensive pediatric Critical Care Medicine program and for advancing the field through excellence in patient care, practice innovation, research, and education. This position requires a dynamic, passionate, and capable physician-leader with a record of success across collaborative clinical leadership, administrative management, program development, academic scholarship, educational excellence, faculty recruitment, and community engagement.

Candidates should have a record of outstanding academic accomplishments and strong credentials in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. They should also possess the experience and national reputation necessary to advance the Division’s research, clinical, and educational missions. Ideal candidates will have a demonstrated history of recruiting, mentoring, and developing talented faculty and contributors. They should exhibit the ability to build and sustain collegial relationships with peers, faculty, departmental staff, hospital administration, students, other learners, and external stakeholders, including community organizations. A strong foundation in financial and business acumen is essential, along with an understanding of the complex financial pressures facing academic medical centers and multi-site healthcare delivery systems. Board Certification in Pediatric Critical Care is required. Candidates must be licensed or eligible for medical licensure in the State of New York.

Clinical services are primarily provided in the Pediatric Critical Care Unit (PCCU) at CHAM, which includes 20 beds for high-acuity patients and 6 beds in an Intermediate Care Unit. The Division Chief will lead a team that includes 11 full-time faculty members, 4 house physicians, and a multidisciplinary staff composed of critical care nurse practitioners and nurses, occupational therapists, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, nutritionists, social workers, child life specialists, and pharmacists. This team provides continuous in-house coverage for CHAM’s PCCU, in the pediatric transport program, and the sedation service. In addition, the PCCU team collaborates in the care of patients with complex heart disease in the 6-bed Pediatric Cardiovascular Care Unit (PCVCU).

The PCCU is one of the largest in the region and supports a busy Pediatric Emergency Department, along with a comprehensive array of pediatric medical and surgical subspecialties. It serves as a referral center for hospitals throughout the Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester, and Hudson Valley. The unit offers advanced and highly specialized services, including mechanical cardiac support such as Extracorporeal Life Support (ECLS); extracorporeal liver support using the Molecular Adsorbent Recirculating System (MARS); Ventricular Assist Devices (VAD) and Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps (IABP); complex mechanical ventilation modalities; bone marrow and solid organ transplantation—including heart, liver, and kidney—as well as cellular therapies for cancers; and Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT). More than 1,200 patients are treated annually in CHAM’s PCCU.

In addition to a competitive salary of $375,000-525,000, we offer the opportunity to supplemental income through additional call responsibilities and productivity incentives.  LTD, STD, paid malpractice, health, dental, vision and a 403(b) are also offered.
