The Med-Surg PICU at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital will have an opening for a per diem (no benefits) "housedoc" position in July 2024.
In this role, our housedoc covers shifts on NIGHTS and WEEKENDS and works as a frontline provider, along side our residents, and is directly supervised by our PICU fellow and PICU attending (who are in-house 24/7).
The position comes with the rank of Instructor in Clinical Pediatrics at Columbia University Medical Center and a NYP MSCH hospital appointment (Assistant Attending). Our Med-Surg PICU has 13-beds and is separate from our Cardiac and Neuro PICUs. The unit cares for a wide variety of complex patients (including solid organ and stem cell transplant recipients, pulmonary hypertension, heart failure, and many others) and will provide a rich exposure to ECMO, CRRT, HFOV, and conventional and noninvasive ventilation. Participation in resident and fellow didactic education is possible but not required.
Successful candidates will have completed a pediatric residency before starting. The expectation is approximately 13 shifts per month (13 hours per shift). Our residents do a hybrid call schedule (mix of 24hrs and night float) to ensure there is a MSCH resident on every night and weekend. Thus, the goal of this per diem position is to supplement our staffing so that we consistently have 2 providers on at night. With the help of our Chief Residents, who make the schedule, there will be flexibility in the scheduling of shifts. We would prefer at least a 1 year commitment.
Interested applicants should email Dr. Linda Aponte-Patel, Section Chief of Pediatric Critical Care (la2423@cumc.columbia.edu), and include their CV.
