SCCM Pediatric Section Internet Working Group (SCCMPIWG)

Meeting Minutes February 1996

At the SCCM Pediatric Section business meeting in New Orleans, a committee was formed with the charges to facilitate the use of the Internet by SCCM Pediatric Section members, and to represent the Section on the larger SCCM's Committee on Computer Use. This committee, tentatively named the Pediatric Section Committee on Computer Use, will be chaired by Carl Weigle. Barry Markovitz will co-chair and will be our representative at the SCCM Committee on Computer Use. One specific goal will be to develop a World Wide Web site for the section's business communications to members(and the public). This site would likely include committee reports, a membership roster, and an electronic version of the Pediatric section of"STAT!", the SCCM newsletter. A second specific goal will be to develop a help desk' function to aid Section members in connecting to and making use of the Internet. Membership is open to any interested Pediatric section SCCM member. Members would be expected to participate in meetings, both electronic and real, and assume responsibilities for tasks to assist in the development of the section's Web site and virtual help desk.

Meanwhile, the PedsCCM Web site (http://PedsCCM.wustl.edu) initiated and maintained by Barry Markovitz (markovitz@pedsccm.org), with the assistance of Steve Pon (spon@mail.med.cornell.edu) and Carl Weigle(cweigle@its.mcw.edu), provides an exciting new resource for anyone with an interest in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. This is a very collaborative effort, and volunteers are always welcome - send e-mail to Barry, Steve, or Carl. This site is currently pointed to by the main SCCM Web page (http://www.pitt.edu/~crippen/sccm) as the SCCM Peds section page, and will continue to serve that function for a few more weeks until the official SCCM Peds Section Web page can be established at a separate site.

And of course the PICU e-mail discussion list continues to thrive, with over 1100 members and can be subscribed to by sending a one line e-mail message to listproc@its.mcw.edu. The message should say "subscribe picu Firstname Lastname", and your e-mail address will be automatically recorded.
