Storgion, Chair-elect, Ed Conway, Vicki Montgomery, Bruce Greenwald, Rich
Brilli, past-chair, ex-officio
Guests: Ritu Jain, Mohan Mysore, Ken Tegtmeyer,
Tim Yeh, Alan Fields,
The budget report was
presented. At the end of the
fiscal year in September, 2002 the section had $659.04. By the end of December, 2002 there was
$1,349.04 in the budget having received $500 from the SCCM and $190 in
donations.
A discussion was held by the
members on how to increase the budget.
The Executive Committee voted to ask the Section members at the Section
meeting for dues of $10 per member.
This would be in addition to the $50 they currently pay for Pediatric
Critical Care Medicine. The money would not be used for
convenience items such as executive committee travel. The Executive Committee would provide a full accounting of
expenditures.
The SCCM policy on fundraising
was presented. The new policy
allows for sections to raise up to $5000 through local corporate
representatives but any monies above that would need to be raised by the SCCM. A request for volunteers for a
subcommittee to work on fundraising as well as address issues of conflict of
interest was made.
The Committee voted to
provide $1000 to Barry Markovitz for support of the PedsCCM website.
Ritu Jain from the SCCM
central office made a presentation on the eroom available through the SCCM
website for members only.
Discussion was held as to the utility of the eroom for communication.
It was noted that Bob Clark,
Hector Wong, and Tom Shanley were on the program committee for the next
Congress. Pam Dallstream is
the SCCM central office program representative.
Tim Yeh and Alan Fields
presented an updated on pediatric issues at the ACCM. The Guidelines for PICU Levels of Care has stalled because
of substantive changes by the Council.
Also the Admission and Discharge Criteria for Intermediate Care Units
written by David Jaimovich had been approved by the ACCM, the SCCM Council, the
AAP Section on Critical Care , the AAP Committee on Hospital Care and the AAP
Board of Directors. However, in
the process of getting them published, they were sent out for peer review and
one reviewer rejected them. So the
suggestion was made for them to be published but with an accompanying letter to
the editor from the authors addressing the concerns of the negative reviewer.
The course on Current
Concepts in Pediatric Critical Care was going on concurrently and so no numbers
were available on its success. It
was mentioned at the course that there was some concern that is was going to be
cancelled. Tom Shanley will be
continuing as course director and Ken Tegtmeyer was nominated as co-chair.
Ken also gave a report on
MMCAP exam. Apparently when the
SCCM moved to Chicago all previous data from the exam were lost so there has
been no database since the move.
Ken has worked all year to re-establish a database. Denise Goodman is the new chair of the
MMCAP.
Mohan Mysore of the Resident
Education Committee gave a report.
He is working with the SCCM on the SCCM taking over the picucourse.com
website. A meeting will be held
the following Saturday with David Martin to discuss funding and administration
of the site.
Rich Brilli gave a brief
report from the SCCM Council. He
basically said what the Council needs is to know what we as a section want from
Council and the SCCM. Also
potential nominees for Council were discussed.
There being no other
business the meeting was ended.
