Introduction

J. Verger welcomed all in attendance.
Colloquium Lecture

T. Bojko discussed lecture at SCCM Pediatric Critical Care Colloquium "Fellows and Physicians Extenders in the PICU: Is the fellow an Endangered Species?" - would like to remove the concept of "taking away" from existing roles i.e. fellow/resident. Help to integrate unique role of APN in PICU - not as a replacement. Help to create a consensus or formal endorsement of PICU NP role from SCCM and/or Pediatric Section.

Introduction of Co-Chairpersons and all committee members.

Each committee member described his/her role as an APN or supervisor of APN's in his or her own PICU
Purpose of APN committee. T. Bojko reviewed the purpose of the committee for all new attendees. This committee was formed to explore and help define the role of the APN in pediatric critical care throughout the country. The committee would then have input and influence in the role development and how it is utilized. Would develop a written document that will delineate the role of APN in PICU.

The committee could take whatever form its members choose but be multidisciplinary and committed to working as a group
Develop a written document separate from SCCM Extender document, which focuses on Pediatrics/PICU. There is utility in a separate pediatric based document, which could potentially be incorporated with the SCCM statement in order to be congruent yet maintaining a pediatric perspective.
APN Survey

Preliminary results of the survey that was given to PCC APN’s were shared with the group. Presentation of data on PICU NPs will be on Thursday 6/29 by J. Verger at the Pediatric Intensive Care 3rd World Congress.

Further data collection, outcome studies are necessary for both CNS and NP in PICU. Need to clearly delineate each role. Surveys are still being distributed and ongoing data collection and analysis continues.

The APN and Supervisor Surveys will be distributed to all PICUs in the U.S. to be completed. The surveys are also available here
Distribution of APN and Supervisor Surveys The APN and/or Supervisor Surveys were distributed to all attendees that have not yet completed it. Copies of the surveys were given to attendees to distribute to other APN's and/or supervisors at their institution.ent i All surveys are to be returned to Judy Verger CRNP as soon as possible.
