Committee on Advanced Practice Nursing

Society of Critical Care Medicine
Following discussion at the most recent business meeting of the pediatric section of SCCM at San Francisco in Jan. 1999 a committee of the section was established to address the issues regarding advanced practice nursing in pediatric critical care. Tom Bojko, MD, Director of Pediatric Critical Care at Maimonides Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY and Judy Verger, RN, PCCNP, Advanced Practice Nurse, PICU, The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and Academic Coordinator, The University of Pennsylvania's Pediatric Critical Care Nurse Practitioner Program have agreed to co-chair this committee.
A survey has been developed to gather information regarding the roles of advanced practice nurses in pediatric critical care to be used by this committee. This survey will soon be distributed by mail and on the PedsCCM website to both pediatric critical care advanced practice nurses and physicians.

Any parties interested in joining this committee should email either Tom Bojko, MD at: tbojko@maimonidesmed.org or Judy Verger, RN, PCCNP at jtv@nursing.upenn.edu . The inaugural meeting of the committee is tentatively planned during the upcoming Colloquium in Portland, Oregon in September.

Next meeting: At the Pediatric Critical Care Colloquium on Friday, October 4, 12 noon in Garden room C at the Hyatt Islandia. Alice Ackerman, MD and Maureen Madden, PCCNP will be introduced as the incoming co-chairs of the committee.A summary of the soon to be published manuscript on the role of PNP's in PICUs will be presented. All interested are welcome to attend....
